Kids will have the opportunity to feed and care for chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits and many other flora and fauna after their new educational centre opened on Wednesday.
The project begun when Australian Pacific Coal (APC) gave the institute a grant of almost $12,000, which kindergarten director Kelly Constable is very thankful for.
“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of Pacific Coal, being a community-based preschool, to have their support in our community,” she said.
“To be able to offer programs like this for the children is amazing.”
Ms Constable said the program was designed to give the kids a chance to appreciate nature and first-hand experience dealing with animals and vegetables, which are skills they can use later in life.
She said even though the environment space had just opened up, the children reacted with delight, mentioning that Archie the rabbit and the chickens were receiving the most affection.
“The kids have just absolutely taken to it,” Ms Constable explained.
“They love coming out and checking on the chickens daily (and), the rabbits and the guinea pigs, they absolutely love them.
“I believe it will be something they look forward to every day.”
