And, the Aberdeen Tigers pointscoring machine isn’t finished yet.
Heading into the play-offs, where he landed four conversions in the side’s 24-16 victory over the Scone Thoroughbreds in the major semi-final, Baker posted 25 tries and landed 80 goals for a personal haul of 260.
That places him second, apparently, on the all-time Group 21 list.
The record belongs to former NRL referee Shayne Hayne, who registered 326 for the Muswellbrook Rams in 1990.
Twenty-nine years ago, the flying winger crossed the tryline on 32 occasions, while booting 98 two-pointers and a couple of field goals.
While Baker is unlikely to pass that mark, with only the grand final remaining, he’s more than happy with his contribution to the Tigers – especially if they capture the title again in 2018.
“Yeah, I’m pleased with how I’ve gone,” he said.
“It’s easy to score points on the back of a good pack of forwards and smart halves.
“But, all the hard work will count for nothing if we stumble at the last hurdle.
“We’re not too fussed on who we’ll face [in the decider]; we’ve got to concentrate on our own game.
“At the start of the season, the boys set one goal – to win.
“We picked up the Scanlon Shield and the minor premiership.
“So, the 2018 Group 21 crown would be the icing on the cake.”
Baker was almost a member of last year’s victorious squad, which knocked over the Muswellbrook Rams 36-26.
However, the talented utility’s hoping to be a part of the celebrations this time around.
“I’ve been mates with Guy Thompson for a while – and was due to join Aberdeen in 2017,” he explained.
“But, a family matter came up.
“I said I’d play with the Tigers in 2018; and stuck to my word.
“They’re a terrific club.
“Everything’s run really well from the coaching to the community work.
“The committee’s been great, too.
“And, even though I was new, they’ve welcomed me from day one.
“They’re a tight group of boys; I feel right at home.
“Aberdeen is only a little organisation, compared to Muswellbrook and Scone.
“I guess they’ve always been the underdog.
“However, I’m expecting a massive home crowd to spur us on at McKinnon Field on August 26.
“It would be great for the town.”
