The Muswellbrook Memorial Croquet Gala Carnival, which doubled as the Glenda Downs Day, allowed each of them to fondly remember the woman who died more than a decade ago.
Pam Newton, who returned from Morpeth for the event, had only kind words for her late mentor.
“It was Glenda Downs who got me, and others, involved in croquet,” she explained.
“I heard her talking about it on radio one day.
“She spoke enthusiastically about the sport; her knowledge was second to none.
“Croquet can be a challenging game – and I think that’s its appeal.
“Glenda certainly taught us a lot.
“So, it’s great to see a number of locals and a few from Scone here today.”
The players capped off the occasion with a barbecue lunch before another round of action.
