And, that mood provided an excellent backdrop to a special performance class at the Muswellbrook Uniting Church Hall on Monday.
Zumba instructor Christine Scott has put a number of clients from Challenge Disability Services and Endeavour Group through their paces this school term – and they showcased all their best dance moves in front of appreciative family and friends.
“The Muswellbrook RSL Club’s sponsored the weekly fitness class for special needs students for some time now,” she explained.
“We’ve had about 30 people this term, not only local but from Denman, Scone and Merriwa as well.
“They meet every Monday and undergo a one-hour session.
“It’s hugely successful and we all have lots of fun.
“So, this week, we decided to invite family and friends to see what they do.
“It was also an opportunity to thank Daryl Egan [from the Muswellbrook RSL Club] for his support.”
Ms Scott admits she “absolutely loves” teaching Zumba.
“I created this [class] from the experience I’ve gained over the years,” she said.
“While we’ve taught kids before, this one was for the adults.
“Even though there are a variety of disabilities among the participants, the goal is the same – it is about exercise and social interaction.
“The class makes them feel inclusive, too.
“It’s also terrific to see how much pleasure they get from it.
“They’ve been really looking forward to performing [today].
“Surprisingly, it’s the guys who are more enthusiastic.”
