The annual award was given to Martin Blenman, who said the pastime keeps his mind occupied and assured his mobility doesn’t fade away.
“It gets me away from the TV and outside,” he admitted.
“I just potter along and, sometimes, I don’t sleep at night and just think about what I’m going to do the next day.”
The award’s coordinator, Betty Eriksson, said Mr Blenman’s efforts had come close to winning before, but felt he deserved the 2018 prize.
“This garden has always been a beautiful garden,” she explained.
“We’ve admired it every year for so long, but we thought this year it was above everything else.”
Mr Blenman has had a passion for keeping his yard pristine since he was young, and said he first begun the practice more than 80 years ago.
He said it was a bit of a shock when he found out about his victory.
However, he’s very thankful and hopes that everyone who goes past can enjoy the sight.
