The evergreen couple met in Singleton in 1955, marrying three years later, and have been together ever since, proving true love does indeed stand the test of time.

Celebrating the big day on October 4, they looked back on the memories that have shaped their marriage.

Mrs Millard, nee Wingett, said family matters were still at the forefront of her mind when she thinks about their relationship’s highlights.

“Raising our children and watching them grow up will stay with us forever,” she explained.

They had three kids (Robert, Barbara and Karen) and now boast six grandchildren, who will be able to inherit some of the wisdom Ray and Pam have in regards to staying committed to a partner.

“I’d say don’t be selfish, you’re sharing your family and everything together and other things you just have to make an agreement on,” Mrs Millard said.

Her husband emphasised that point, and said they share everything which is why they’ve lasted so long.

He even stated they had never had any major fights during the six decades spent together.

“It’s never been that tough, it’s been hard financially earlier in life, but here we are 60 years and three weeks on,” he said.

They are still happy to joke around, with Mr Millard cheekily denying it was love at first sight, but added “maybe it was the second time”.

Mrs Millard said she was actually dating somebody else when they first met, but Ray won her over and the rest was history. 

Given the recent spate of 100^th birthdays in the region, it looks like Ray, 87, and Pam, 81, could have many more years together yet.
