Fire & Rescue NSW Station 392 Muswellbrook was called to a house in Muswellbrook at 7.34pm.
On arrival, the crew extinguished the remains of a jerry can, before assisting NSW Ambulance paramedics to load the man into the ambulance for transportation to the Muswellbrook District Hospital.
There, the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s critical care medical team stabilised the male who is believed to be in his late 50s.
However, he required specialist treatment.
He was flown to the burns unit at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney.
