The junior girls headed to Tamworth this month with six youngsters – Isobel Williams (6 years, third), Tahlia Barnes (9 years, first), Gabrielle Boyle (11 years, first), Julia Troon (12 years, second), Stephanie Crompton (12 years, third) and Bethany Hobbs (14 years, first) – securing automatic spots at the prestigious event in Sydney in November, with another eight finalists – Adelaide Richards, Lexie Badior (6 years), Charli-Rose Wilson, Olivia Purcell (7 years), Lucy Waters, Tessa Hogan (9 years), Pia Henderson (10 years) and Ainsleigh Dunbar (13 years) – set to strut their stuff in the repechage series this weekend.
From that successful group, three of them – Barnes, Boyle and Hobbs – claimed zone titles.
“That was amazing; an enormous achievement,” club president and teacher Mandy Morris said.
“Talia has progressed every year, so it’s great to see her finish first this time around.
“Gabrielle’s never placed at zone before; I couldn’t be happier for her.
“As for Bethany, she’s a superstar.
“It’s also a testament to how much effort they’ve put in.
“We fielded two teams as well, with the 5/6 years placing fourth and the 9/10 years performing well, too.”
Morris admitted she was “ecstatic” with the results of the club’s members at the New England tournament.
“I’m over the moon,” she said.
“And, I’m so proud of the way the girls conducted themselves during the entire weekend.
“Everyone was excited for each other – it was a real family feeling.
“Their hard work definitely paid off, too.
“All the girls achieved their goals.”
