The function has been instrumental, over many years, in ensuring much-needed equipment goes towards the town’s MPS facility.
And, the past 12 months reflected another fruitful period.
Since July 2017 until June 2018, the group purchased in excess of $38,000 worth of items, including an outdoor roof/awning between the MPS and day care centre; a nurse call system; a Regency chair and two activity trays; infusion pumps; bed bath insert and pillow; four laser Invisabeam systems and much more.
“After 23 years, we’re delighted the Denman and district community continues to support this function,” auxiliary president Glenda Duggan said.
“All hospitals and health care facilities depend on their auxiliaries to provide essential equipment and items from staff wish lists.
“In the last financial year, we gifted $38,085.50 to the Denman MPS.
“But, our work isn’t finished.
“We’re now hoping to obtain an intra-oral camera.
“This will be used to view a Denman resident’s mouth and teeth simultaneously with the dental technician in Newcastle.
“Other requests include an electric pressure care chair with activity meal tray, a couple of pressure care mattresses, timber bench seats with storage and cushions, as well as an entertainment pack for residential aged care.”
Mrs Duggan said the Denman United Hospital Auxiliary had been raising funds for almost seven decades.
“That’s due to the ongoing support from hospital management and staff; a supportive, generous community; and active, motivated, enthusiastic members,” she explained.
“I am extremely passionate, proud and in awe of our auxiliary’s achievements and commitments to fundraising.
“For years, the prospect of onsite staff accommodation has been on the backburner due to a funding shortfall – while quotes kept on increasing.
“However, all that changed recently.
“Following a successful funding application, and thanks to Melissa, Jean and Kim for their assistance, we received $222,000 from the Ridgelands Community Fund.
“To be honest, there were tears of joy when we heard the news.
“Now, that important project should start very soon.”
The organisation’s next general meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 21, in the hospital’s meeting room from 4pm.
In a fitting gesture, Mrs Duggan was also awarded Life Membership of the United Hospital Auxiliaries of NSW Inc.
