Bridge and Civil Pty Ltd will construct three noise abatement walls along the rail corridor from November 28 – one at Simpson Park and two along the railway line behind the Campbell’s Corner precinct.
Rail noise can impact on communities who live close to rail infrastructure.
The Rail Noise Abatement Project is designed to reduce rail noise at its source and minimise impact on existing residents and businesses.
Muswellbrook Shire Council was granted $1.95million from the NSW Government’s Restart NSW Resources for Regions program to undertake detailed investigation, design and construction of the noise wall.
A reduction of between seven and 13 decibels is expected and council will undertake further noise monitoring once construction is completed.
Community consultation formed a large part of the process.
The Rail Noise Abatement Project Stage 1 Concept was placed on public exhibition for 28 days earlier this year, a series of engagement activities, including “drop-in” information sessions, were held and council received submissions from many locals.
Council and the contractor will make it a priority to minimise any anticipated disruption or inconvenience to the residents and businesses within the construction precinct.
It is expected that Stage 1 will be completed at the beginning of March, 2019.
