Australia Day Awards are presented to individuals and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to the shire in the field of community service, sport, agriculture, social inclusion, arts and culture, environment and education.
In 2018, Denman’s Glenda Duggan captured the highest honour while Muswellbrook High School student Jenna Besford was named Young Citizen of the Year.
Other successful recipients included Cassidy Watts, Virginia Greentree, Penguin Garden Group, Upper Hunter Riding for the Disabled, Melissa Whiteman, Bronwyn Pettit, Zahli Woolnough, Brydie Parker and Shannon Nicholls.
In 2019, the award categories are: Citizen of the Year; Youth Citizen of the Year; Cultural Contributor, Youth Cultural Contributor; Social Award; Education Award; Environment Award ; Northoak Award (Agriculture); Services to Sport; Sportsperson of the Year; and Junior Sportsperson of the Year.
All residents are encouraged to nominate a person or organisation that has made a significant contribution to the growth and wellbeing of the Muswellbrook Shire community.
Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Muswellbrook Shire Council website at www.muswellbrook.nsw.gov.au or collected from the Muswellbrook Administration Centre and the Muswellbrook and Denman libraries.
Nominations close on November 30.
