THE Muswellbrook PCYC and 2NM/Power FM have joined forces again to deliver their yearly Toy and Food Appeal, which helps families in need during the holidays.

Delivering hamper baskets of food, general goods and even toys, the program is an annual relief for some families who don’t have access to those resources due to financial hardship.

PCYC manager De-Anne Douglas said it helped a huge number of local people who would otherwise have a significantly less enjoyable Christmas period.

“It’s an amazing community appeal,” she explained.

“Last year saw us support 149 families in the Denman, Muswellbrook and Aberdeen areas, which is a lot of people who received support as a result of the generosity of our community.”

The satisfaction everyone involved gets from being part of the project is hard to describe, she admitted, and said the gratification they receive as a result of it is truly overwhelming.

“It’s really humbling,” Ms Douglas said.

“It is really hard for people to ask for help sometimes, so it can be quite emotional.

“And, knowing they’re comfortable enough to come to us for support – and are grateful for the support – is really great.

“Mt Arthur employees do our deliveries and hearing the feedback from them is terrific.

“Mums are often in tears because they’re just so grateful for that support and, when they turn up, they feel like they’re Santa and they’re giving to that family.”

Ms Douglas praised the community for everything they’ve given so far, but said there was still time to help through donating non-perishable food and gifts.

She added even the smallest amount of assistance could be beneficial and have a huge impact on somebody else’s life.

Anyone looking to contribute to the appeal is strongly encouraged to drop their donations into the Muswellbrook PCYC.
