So, if you know someone who fits this bill, don’t miss the opportunity to share community pride by nominating them for a 2019 Australia Day Award.
Awards are presented to individuals and organisations that have made an outstanding contribution to the shire in the field of community service, sport, agriculture, social inclusion, arts and culture, environment and education.
In 2018, a deserving but humble Glenda Duggan walked away with the top honour at an Australia Day ceremony in her hometown of Denman.
“I never wanted recognition or praise; that’s not what I do it for,” she said at the time.
“I’m extremely excited and happy but very surprised.”
Mrs Duggan saw her volunteering as simply an extension of her nursing duties, a career that began in 1958 and continued until 2001.
Categories in 2019 include: Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; Cultural Contributor, Young Cultural Contributor; Social Award; Education Award; Sustainability Award ; Northoak Award (Agriculture); Services to Sport; Sportsperson of the Year; Junior Sportsperson of the Year.
Residents are urged to nominate a person or organisation who has made a significant contribution to the growth and wellbeing of the Muswellbrook Shire community.
Nominations can be completed online at the Muswellbrook Shire Council website or collect a form from the Council Administration Centre or Muswellbrook and Denman libraries.
Nominations have been extended to midnight on December 12.
