The Upper Hunter Motoring Association (UHMA) has revealed the extent of its donation to the Muswellbrook PCYC following the success of its Global Village Motorfest and Fair in November.
The members raised an incredible $27,000 and handed over the cheque at a special presentation during their Christmas party on Sunday, which was held at the picturesque Balmoral Homestead.
The Muswellbrook and District Workers Club and Muswellbrook RSL sub-Branch also chipped in with $2000 each.
Muswellbrook PCYC manager De-anne Douglas was extremely grateful for the funds, and said they would be put to good use.
“With the money they’ve been raising for us over the years, it goes towards our Youth Development Fund,” she explained.
“And, that’s the money we’re able to support the community with and how we’re able to change children’s lives.
“It’s very humbling for us.
“It is unheard of for a group of people like this getting together and making some money for the PCYC; and myself and my team certainly couldn’t do what we do without the help of the UHMA.”
As a result of the money, they’ve been able to continue their Learn to Drive program, which has seen 161 locals gain their licence.
UHMA’s Geoff Budden said they were more than happy to contribute to another community group in the way they have.
He thanked the local mines for supporting them before giving credit to each and every person who played a hand in raising the money.
