With a stage and sound equipment set up on the top oval for the first time, families and friends were able to sit back, relax, purchase a Hunter Belle Cheese box and nibblies – and enjoy the show.
And, the big crowd definitely responded positively to A Very PJ Christmas, which incorporated MSPS’s PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) platypus mascot, PJ.
“It’s great to see so many people here [this evening],” principal Glen Kite said.
“Teacher Patrick Wild has done a terrific job coordinating the event, which involves all the students and staff.”
Mr Kite admitted PBL was a vital component of the curriculum these days.
“When we feel good, we function well,” he said.
“This is the message we’ve been sharing this year with our staff and students.
“It’s an idea that is found in positive psychology: a strength-based approach to wellbeing.
“At Muswellbrook South, we’ve adopted this and applied it to education to produce wellbeing, as well as to forward the traditional outcomes of schooling.
“Next week, our staff is continuing their training in positive psychology with schools from across the Upper Hunter.
“It’s being run by the team from Visible Wellbeing and supported by the Where there’s A Will Foundation.
“Part of a positive psychology approach is to build on strengths rather than dwell on failures.
“We’re excited about this training and look forward to working with other schools from around our area to positively shift the wellbeing of our communities.”
