HOW TO ENTER
The Newcastle Herald is calling for entries in the 2019 Hunter Photography Prize.
Photos must either be taken in the region or feature Hunter people. Entrants must also live in the region. You can shoot your pictures with anything from a Box Brownie to an iPhone.
Our judges will select the winning and highly commended entries, plus a readers’ choice award will be voted via theherald.com.au and other websites. The overall winner will collect the 2019 Hunter Photography Prize.
A selection of entries will also be published in print editions and/or on the websites of the Herald and other newspapers, including the Maitland Mercury, Port Stephens Examiner, Lakes Mail, Newcastle and Lake Macquarie Star, Cessnock Advertiser, Dungog Chronicle, Singleton Argus, Muswellbrook Chronicle, Scone Advocate and Hunter Valley News.
The winners will receive camera prize packages from Domayne Kotara.
First prize: Nikon D3500 Camera with 18-55mm lens (RRP $898) plus 300 free 6x4 prints from the Domayne photo station.
Highly commended: Nikon D3400 Camera with 18-55mm lens (RRP $597) plus 200 free 6x4 prints.
Readers’ choice: GoPro Hero (RRP $298) plus 100 free 6x4 prints.
Email entries to hunterphotoprize@fairfaxmedia.com.au (maximum five photos, as JPEG attachments). Entries must include your name, address, mobile phone number, photo title, and a brief description of the image explaining who or what is in the picture as well as the date and location.
Write your name and “Hunter Photography Prize” in the subject field of the email. Please note that not all photo entries will be published. Photos must be a minimum 500kb and a maximum of 2MB. Fairfax reserves the right to crop a photograph.
By entering, a person is stating the photograph was taken by them and that they own the copyright. The photographer gives Fairfax Media and the associated mastheads permission to publish their submitted photographs in any form, including print, online, book, calendar or exhibition. The photographer retains the copyright.
To be eligible for the prize, your main source of income can’t be derived from photography.
The judging panel will include the award-winning Hunter news photographers Simone De Peak, Jonathan Carroll, Marina Neil and Max Mason-Hubers. Other editors include Hunter Communities editor Anna Wolf, Newcastle Herald editor Heath Harrison, senior deputy editor Lisa Allan, Lower Hunter editor Rick Allen, Upper Hunter editor Rod Thompson and digital journalist Jessica Brown. The judges’ decisions are final.
The competition closes at 5pm on January 24, 2019.
