WITH the temperature searing and communication fading, it’s no wonder Brook Silver had a tough time batting in its Upper Hunter District Cricket Association loss to Aberdeen at the weekend.

Making just 82, the side looked in complete disarray throughout the middle-order where it dropped 4-3, which isn’t totally surprising given the lack of match practice several of the players had.
They started off strongly however, scoring at a solid rate before drinks and upping the ante immediately following it.
Noman Jawaad was a rock at the top of the order and finished on 37, although his dismissal led to the mayhem that saw them fall from 3-67 to 7-70.
An injured but resistant Jarrod Watts limped into the middle and managed to make 9 not out.
But, when the team failed to make an early breakthrough with the ball, it became clear the game belonged to Aberdeen, who now sits sixth on the table.
The winning side’s star with the ball was undoubtedly Colin Parkinson, who recovered from a shaky start to take 4-20 from his seven overs.
Haydn Churcher helped make light work of the run chase by battering his way to 47, which led to the game finishing in just 13 overs and Aberdeen having eight scalps in hand.
The Blues didn’t have much more enjoyment, putting on 110 before the Belmore Bulls continued its hot form with a seven-wicket victory.
Mitchell Farley top scored for the hosts with 24, but that was comfortably eclipsed by Will King’s unbeaten 57 for the eventual victors.
Star pace bowler Tim Carter ripped the Blues apart with a deadly 6.5-over spell in which he took 4- 13.
The Blues’ situation is becoming dire with just five games remaining, as they desperately search for a victory to avoid a winless season.
Their opposition from the weekend may give them hope though as the Bulls were themselves without a victory until round four, but are now sitting only .32 per cent outside the top four.
In other results at the weekend, the Bushrangers won the Belltrees derby by five wickets, Merriwa pulverised Rouchel by 135 runs and Bunnan copped a 175-run demolition at the hands of Murrurundi.
