Some influential names were at the event, too, including 2019 Young Citizen of the Year Larnie Chapman and even two-time silver Paralympic medallist Taylor Corry.
With a large number of participants, the carnival as a whole was a success and Muswellbrook Amateur RSL Youth Swimming Club, in particular, had a good day, taking home 36 gold, 26 silver and 24 bronze medals.
Club secretary Kristal Foot referred to it as “an impressive haul”.
And, the leadership and fresh ideas of new head swimming coach Tom Mitchell were on full display, despite being thrown in the deep end for the role just last month.
Corry revealed to the Chronicle she was extremely impressed with the professionalism of the day.
“It’s a really good [turnout],” she admitted.
“It’s a really nice day out here and basically these kids are having fun and enjoying the water.”
The 24-year-old also spoke about her future and said she was hoping to make the Tokyo Paralympics next year, and was also focusing on making the 2020 World Championship team.
Having someone of that calibre competitively appearing at an event in Muswellbrook is a big tick for the club, that as recently as two years ago was struggling to keep its head above water in terms of junior numbers.
