The Pat Farrell-trained gelding son of Harbour Watch pinched the race when Greg Ryan booted the three-year-old clear racing up, down and around the Walcha hill.

He was always well-placed after drawing barrier one and finished a length ahead of the Tim Martin-trained Dance Hall Girl, who rattled home after being held up until well into the straight.

Looksea had seven runs leading into the Ron Martin Maiden and might have overcome a few issues, such as being barred from racing after a Gosford trial.

“He’s always shown a bit,” Farrell said after the win.

“Should have done better but been unlucky.”

He believes he will “go on” to win some nice races on what he termed a “bush crawl”.

Ryan, who has won a Ron Martin Maiden, said Looksea had the ability.

“He has been running a bit hot but settled a bit better today,” he explained.

“He got into a rhythm.

“He’s better than he has been, had a tough campaign.

“Been barred a couple of times, ran off the track and played up at the barriers.”
