Warrior Disability Services (WDS), with the support of Muswellbrook Shire Council, is hosting a Business Clean Up Australia challenge on Tuesday, February 26.
And, the organisation hopes businesses will lend one or more staff members to help out.
The Warriors will sign people on from 10.30am at their headquarters - Shop 12, Brook Street Plaza – and there will be a free lunch for all involved at 12.30pm.
To register for the business clean up, email sallyp@warriordisability.com.au or phone 0432 680 936 before Monday, February 25.
Director of participant services Sally Pereira said the participants and staff at WDS were very excited to be part of the event.
“Not only will we be helping to clean up our community together, we will be making new friends and giving the Warriors an opportunity to be valued members of the community,” she explained.
“Even if you can’t make it to the clean up, come and join us for lunch.”
Sustainability officer Mick Brady said council was encouraging businesses, schools and the whole community to become involved in the annual event.
“We hope these clean up days will send a message to litterers and illegal dumpers that the community finds their behaviour to be unacceptable,” he added.
This year’s Clean Up Australia events are being run in conjunction with the ongoing Don’t Be a Tosser anti-littering campaign, which also encourages residents to report a “tosser” online on the campaign’s website.
Youth and schools clean up day is on Friday, March 1, and everyone is invited to participate in Clean Up Australia on Sunday, March 3 - in Muswellbrook at Wilkinson Avenue, opposite the croquet club from 9am to noon; and in Denman at Name Path, Merino Street, from 9am to noon.
Bring a water bottle, hat and closed shoes. Gloves will be supplied.
Don’t Be a Tosser is an initiative of the Environmental Protection Authority’s Waste Less Recycle More program.
