She’s replaced Aaron Moon who has taken the role at St James’ Primary School, while their acting principal Ashley Borg has ventured into the vacant position in Merriwa.

Ms Whale said she was excited by the opportunity to experience something new, having been in her previous educational facility for 11 years.

“It’ll certainly be a challenge, this has about double the amount of students I’m used to,” she explained.

“But, I live for challenges and I look forward to taking this one on.”

Despite a difficult opening fortnight, the newly-appointed principal believes she is settling into the role and spoke highly of the local community.

“The first two weeks were hard because nothing was normal,” Ms Whale said.

“I had to learn a lot of things quickly but I think I’ve got a grasp of it now and I’m really enjoying the way we do things.

“I’ve received a lot of welcomes and positive messages from parents so far and the kids have been really polite and well-mannered, too.

“They’ve been extremely accommodating and open to having a new principal, which has been nice.”

She is hopeful some aspects from her time in Merriwa will translate into her new setting, especially a sense of togetherness within the town.

“It was a unique school there because it was very community-orientated,” Ms Whale said.

“There’s a lot more students here but I hope I can recreate that feeling and, if I’m lucky, the parents will get behind me in doing that.”

She also admitted to seeing the funny side in the principal swaps, but said it’s to be expected because leaders were always looking for new adventures.

And, if they don’t have to move their entire life to pounce on an opportunity then they’ll take it.

If Ms Whale can build a standing anywhere near the level she did at Merriwa, then St Joseph’s Denman can be very confident they’re in good hands for her tenure.
