If the answer is yes, Muswellbrook Healthy & Well and Bengalla Mining Company are excited to bring a friendly community competition to Muswellbrook.
And, the 10,000 steps race tournament is a great opportunity for family, friends and colleagues to join forces – and take positive steps towards better health.
The virtual race will take you from Darwin to Alice Springs – with first team to finish the journey labelled the winner.
The 10,000 Steps Community Challenge will start on Monday, March 4, and take place over six weeks until Friday, April 12.
How to get involved:
1. Organise a team of six before Thursday, February 28
2. Choose a team name and captain
3. Register each team member on the 10,000 steps website 10000steps.org.au to record and track your progress
4. Submit your team to carly.hughes@newcastle.edu.au (including team name, participant names and email addresses so you can be added to the online tournament)
5. Download the 10,000 steps app to record your daily steps
6. Like and follow us on Facebook for tournament updates @MuswellbrookHealthyandWell
To track your virtual steps, you will need a personal activity tracking device or use of smartphone pedometer app.
If you don’t have access to any of these, contact Carly Hughes.
The local coordinator of Muswellbrook Healthy & Well is excited to see the teams come together – and challenge each other to be more active.
“This friendly competition not only aims to encourage people to be more active but also create a sense of belonging and community connection,” Ms Hughes said.
“Prizes have been kindly donated for the first team to complete the journey, the individual with the highest steps, as well as the team and individual showing the most improvement over the six-week tournament.”
