The talented pair will contest the culmination of the competitive season, the Little Athletics NSW State Track and Field Championships, at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre (SOPAC) on Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17.
Youngsters in the age groups, from under-9 to under-17, are eligible for this prestigious event.
Brochtrup is lining up against rivals in the long jump, 70m and 100m sprints, while Waugh will vie for glory in the high jump, long jump and 60m hurdles.
Both booked their state berths, in the under-9 category, after a strong showing at the Hunter Zone Championships (in December) and the Region 2 Championships at Glendale in February.
Brochtrup won the long jump when she registered 3.42 metres, and backed up to finished second in the 70m final with a time of 11.48 seconds.
As for Waugh, he prevailed in the high jump with a leap of 1.10m and crossed the line first in the 60m hurdles decider with 10.85 seconds.
He also placed runner-up in the long jump.
“We had eight athletes head off to Glendale [last month],” Denise Bell said.
“And, they all performed exceptionally well.
“But, congratulations must go to Ruby and Caiden, who’ll now compete at Homebush.
“The club wishes them all the best.”
