OVER the past few years, the Travelling Trolley has played a major role in replenishing the "pantry" at Upper Hunter Community Services (UHCS).

The organisation's Emergency Relief Program assists those with immediate basic needs in times of crisis - that's everything from rice, pasta, spaghetti and lasagne to Weet-Bix and breakfast cereal; toiletries; long-life milk and sugar to tinned goods and fruit; vegemite, jam, honey and peanut butter to simmer sauces and stir fries; and much more.
And, this week, the trolley rolled into Koora Industries - Challenge Community Services in Common Road, Muswellbrook.
Within days, goods have flowed into the basket, much to the delight of Jesse Court from UHCS, who hopes the generosity continues for another fortnight.
"All donations are made into food parcels, which are given away to people who require them most," he said.
"Sometimes, residents need assistance through a life-changing event, illness, hardship or a change in circumstances.
"The Emergency Relief Program is usually their first point of contact.
"It's the first time the Travelling Trolley has been in this area, so we're hopeful of tapping into the surrounding businesses, too.
"The plan is to take it out to places such as Aberdeen and Denman as well.
"If anyone is interested in hosting the Travelling Trolley, they can contact UHCS on 6542 3555," Jessica Dallah added.
"The Community Capacity Building Project, which is funded through BHP Mt Arthur Coal, initiated the idea to meet the upsurge in requests.
"So, we're thankful of their continuing backing."
Koora Industries business coordinator Kim Beverstock said she was only too happy to support the Travelling Trolley - and the community.
"UHCS is always helping us out, so it's the least we can do," she explained.
"Some of our employees [here] also rely on the UHCS for assistance.
"It's a terrific concept."
