Their appointments continue the stunning record of Launceston cricketers on the international stage with Tim Coyle and Ricky Ponting having also filled Australian coaching roles while David Boon was a national selector.

Both fast bowling products of the NTCA, Griffith, formerly of South Launceston, will be assistant coach for the World Cup while Cooley, who played alongside Ponting at Mowbray, will fill the same role overseeing the bowling group for the Ashes series in England.

Since retiring as a player in 2011, Griffith has worked his way up the coaching ranks to take charge of the Tassie Tigers and said he was delighted with the appointment.

"It wasn't really on my radar but when I looked at the timing it meant I wouldn't miss too much of the pre-season here so I thought I'd put my hand up for it and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity," said the 41-year-old, who played 50 first-class matches in a decade-long career. We always want players to do the best they can, go up through the ranks and play at the highest level and it's the same as a coach."

Griffith said the appointment was only for the World Cup and he remained focused on Tasmanian cricket.

"If we make the final in England, I'll miss the first five or six weeks. We'll spend a lot of time over the next couple of weeks planning it and making sure everything is in place before I go."

"It's exciting more than anything for me. They're playing some great cricket at the moment and are on a real good run. Momentum is really building in the group. A lot of the players that are around I've either coached with or against or spent time with - there's no-one there that I don't know.

"My first assignment will be to get up to Brisbane and spend some time with the playing group and get a feel for what the bowling group needs. You don't want to come in and try and reinvent the wheel, you just want to give them as much support as you can."

Griffith, who was an assistant to Justin Langer with Western Australia before being appointed Tasmanian head coach in 2017, previously worked as an assistant coach with the Australian team on the 2016 tour of the West Indies.

National Cricket Centre head coach Cooley, 53, was appointed bowling coach for the tours of India and the UAE and has previously worked as England's bowling coach.

Head coach Langer said Cooley and Griffith are wonderful additions to the team.

"I've worked with Adam in the past at the WACA and been pleased with how hard he's worked to establish himself as one of the best young coaches in Australia," he said.

"While his primary focus will be on preparing our fast bowling group for the physical and mental demands of a World Cup in England, he'll also be a great educator and mentor for our entire squad.

"Troy has been with us for our successful tour of India and the current tour of UAE. He's been a fantastic addition to our coaching team, and brings a great wealth of knowledge, experience and success having coached Australian and England teams in England. His focus will be to prepare our Test bowlers for what's shaping as an exciting Ashes Series in tough English conditions."

Griffith and Cooley will begin their secondments at the World Cup training camp in May.

Cricket Australia interim executive general manager of team performance, Belinda Clark said the pair emerged as "the clear standouts" for the secondments.

The overall coaching structure will be reviewed after the Ashes.
