HE has done it again. Murrurundi's Colin Stanford has won more medals to add to his sizeable collection following a hugely successful effort at his latest competition.
Picking up seven golds, four silvers and one bronze at the Australian Masters National Championships in Adelaide earlier this month, it was one of the 80-year-old's best efforts.
Incredibly he revealed that his times are improving, making him one of the most elite swimmers in his age group.
Humble as always, Stanford said his success is largely because of his wife Robin, who also acts as his coach.
"She keeps checking on me, she checks my underwater strokes and all that sort of thing," he said.
"All the one per centers and all those little things are improving and I think that's making me faster."
The passion is certainly still there and he replied emphatically when asked if he had any intentions of retiring from the sport.
"No, no, no, I'll be 81-years-old this year and I'm still loving it, I'm still going strong," he said.
Stanford is looking to push himself further by attending the world championships in South Korea later this year, although is struggling to find the funds to do so.
Despite that he is very thankful for his current sponsors such as the Upper Hunter Shire Council and Royal Hotel, who have been giving the champion sportsman grants to attend some events.
