Children, teenagers and adults have been training for grading, as well as an upcoming Australian tournament, at the town's Sports and Recreation Club under the guidance of group leader and chief instructor Frans Christensen.
"With the junior and senior classes, we boast about 25 students," committee member Monica Brown said.
"And, while Aberdeen is a small town, our taekwon-do group has a formidable reputation nationally.
"Over the past few years, our pupils have returned home with gold medals from Australian competitions, as well as silver and bronze from world titles.
"Now, another three of our students will attend the National ITF (International Taekwon-do Federation) Championships on the June long weekend.
"Compared to some of the large clubs in our capital cities, our little one certainly packs a punch on the domestic scene."
Brown explained taekwon-do originated in South Korea as a martial art that incorporated kicks, punches and self-discipline.
"It's a great way to keep fit and learn how to defend yourself," she said.
"Aberdeen Il Shim Taekwon-do meets on Mondays and Wednesdays.
"The junior class is from 4pm to 5pm on both days, which caters for primary school-aged children.
"High school students and adults have their class from 5pm to 6pm on Monday and Wednesday.
"Come along to get fit, have some fun and learn how to protect yourself at the same time.
"Everyone is welcome to join us."
