Ability Links, Muswellbrook Shire Council, local singer-songwriter Baihe Butcher, Muswellbrook Public School, Muswellbrook South Public School, Pacific Brook Christian School and St James' Primary School have all joined forces to bring you "Flower Power".
Students at each of the four schools recorded a children's song, which will be played when a button is pressed on a brightly-coloured flower head attached to the fence of the liberty swing.
"The idea behind the concept is to not only provide fun and interesting play equipment but to encourage people to take small actions that make a difference for those with a disability, to think about what inclusion really means and take actions that include people in a meaningful way," Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Ability Links coordinator Debbie Camps said.
"This project started from conversations with [Muswellbrook Shire] council and Ability Links on how to enhance the use and appeal of the liberty swing, which is fenced for safety.
"The liberty swing is a great asset for people with disabilities in Muswellbrook.
"And, we wanted to capitalise on its use by bringing play closer to the swing and making a more inclusive playground.
"Hence, Flower Power was created - to achieve that goal."
Interested residents are invited to attend the annual Upper Hunter Community Services event, Picnic in the Park, which incorporates National Simultaneous Storytime, on Wednesday, May 22, at Simpson Park from 10am.
They can then stay for the launch of Flower Power, which will be from 1.30pm to 2pm, featuring performances of the project songs from local schools.
"It should be a great day," Ms Camps said.
"We're hoping to see a lot of smiling faces at Simpson Park.
"Apart from the launch of Flower Power and National Simultaneous Storytime (presenting the book Alpacas with Maracas), there'll be the Kindi-Farm baby farm animals, free activities for all ages and plenty of local performances.
"So, bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the occasion."
