Following on from a run at Gallery Lane Cove, the talented Create NSW Aboriginal Arts Fellow will unveil his major conceptual exhibition at the facility on Saturday, July 6, from 6pm.

Entry to the weekend's opening is free, with refreshments courtesy of Stone Hill Vineyard, Hunter Belle Cheese, Pukara Estate and Double Picc.

And, De Vries is keen to reveal the true story of The Hidden Garden.

"There's a valley deep in the heart of the Australian bush that is the original site of the Garden of Eden," the multi-disciplinary Gamilaroi artist, writer and creator said.

"The real tree of knowledge and the terrible secret behind Adam and Eve's story is there, too.

"Unfolding through the lens of a fable, handed down from elder to initiate in the rite of passage as old as time, the exhibition features paintings, soundscape and immersive installation artworks, merging to create a unified experience - a hidden garden."

Referencing Christian and other western folklore, De Vries creates a new conceptual indigenous mythology with large experiential exhibits, subjugating the source mythology to turn a mirror onto the viewer's idea of these stories.

He'll also host a workshop on Wednesday, July 10, and a free storytelling event on Saturday, July 13.

The Hidden Garden exhibition, supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW, will close after a six-week stint on August 25.

Utilising a rich source material of Australian indigenous lore alongside pop culture, blending the very old with the new. Draw on cultures for inspiration and bring your own lived experience to the fore to create new original work using various artistic techniques. Suitable for both indigenous and non-indigenous artists of all ages.

This storytelling event will be followed by dinner at the Khrua Thai by Khan on Bridge Street. "Eve was never expelled, she chose to leave." De Vries retells the story of the Garden of Eden through the lens of indigenous storytelling in The Hidden Garden. Through this 45-minute telling, accompanied by a soundtrack composed by De Vries, we learn the true story of the Garden of Eden, a tale of patriarchal propaganda and feminine strength.
