BARRY'S Brother might be maturing into a talented horse.
The three-year-old gelding, which had his fourth start at Tamworth, led all the way to win the $22,000 Quast Quality Products Maiden Plate (1200m) for his Muswellbrook stable on Friday.
Grant Buckley rode the son of Floral Pegasus.
He'd ridden him in two of his three previous starts and that experience was a major factor in Buckley's winning ride.
"I took a sit last start and he half floated," he said after notching a three-quarter length victory over the Cody Morgan-trained Derby Star.
"Today I was able to dictate terms out front."
It was the right move.
Muswellbrook trainer Tim McIntosh prepares Barry's Brother and has watched him develop over the past 12 months.
"He's taken a long time to mature," he said.
"It was a good effort to hit the line but if doesn't learn to settle, he won't get much further."
