Denman hosts successful 2019 NSW State Pony Club Showjumping & One Day Event Championships

DENMAN Pony Club has been praised for its role in the success of the 2019 NSW State Pony Club Showjumping and One Day Event Championships.

The four-day extravaganza, which took place from Saturday to Tuesday, attracted huge participation - and spectator support, which certainly pleased the main sporting body.

"The multi-discipline competition's been great," Pony Club New South Wales' state events and marketing coordinator Rachel Ratini said.

"It's easily brought out the best in each grade.

"NSW is hosting the nationals in October, at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, so this event is the last one before the competitors put their performances into the selection process.

"I guess that's why we've had such big numbers at the Denman grounds.

"But, they have to meet the required qualification standard to even participate here.

"More than 200 riders - from Queensland and throughout NSW - contested the State Pony Club Showjumping Championships at the weekend.

"Then a further 130 took part in the State One Day Event Championships, which incorporates dressage, showjumping and cross country, on Monday and Tuesday.

"It's most we've had in about 15 years."

Ratini said the effort of Zone 7, and in particular the Denman club, was "fantastic".

"Everything's gone really well," she explained.

"We're thrilled Denman [Pony Club] put up its hand to run the event.

"They've very experienced.

"And, it's been a financial windfall for the local area, too, with motels and accommodation houses booked out in town, as well as Merriwa and Muswellbrook."
