THREE of Muswellbrook's brightest and quick-footed young league stars are prepping themselves for a major representative showdown after a thoroughly impressive season.
Matilda Jones (16), Heidi Richards (16) and Tobey Stewart (14) will all travel to Wyong this Saturday to help guide their team, the Greater Northern Tigers under-16s, towards victory over Greater Southern Region in the CRL Country League Tag Championships decider.
All three girls have enjoyed an outstanding 2019, with the latter two combining for five tries and six goals between them across the three matches last weekend.
Despite the entire squad spending limited time together and often having to train separately, the trio still believes their togetherness has been a key factor in their success.
"We just gelled really good considering we only had two training sessions, we didn't get much time to spend with each other but we still went so well," Jones said.
"I think the teamwork we have is a strength, and how we work together and how well we talk to each other," added Richards.
Incredibly, Richards is in just her first season of playing league tag, but has shown her immense skills in a short period of time while showing her versatility across the middle, centre and wing.
While there have been some nerves creeping in, they are focusing on staying positive and Stewart said the experience as a whole has been greatly enjoyable.
"I'm pretty excited, it will be a great opportunity and something that's really fun," the young five-eighth said.
"I was a bit nervous ahead of last weekend because I didn't really know what to expect, but I think this weekend we have a pretty good chance," Richards revealed.
Their impressive campaign has been a showcase of fast feet, swift sidesteps and tantalising tries.
And, if they can emulate it in the final, they'll surely bring home silverware.
