Bruce Mathiske is scheduled to appear in the Atherstone Room at the Upper Hunter Conservatorium of Music, in Bridge Street, on Saturday, August 10, from 8pm.
Tickets are $25 (adults) and $10 (concession).
Bookings can be made with the UHCM office on 6541 4888 or online at www.mathiske.com
Mathiske makes his one guitar sound like three, with his unique style, playing bass, rhythm and melody simultaneously, playing entire pieces orchestrally.
"I play the bass line with my thumb, then my thumb doubles up and plays the rhythm and the melody is played with the other fingers," he explained.
"The audience is fascinated when I explain the different elements."
Irish music critic Anna Murray described the Mathiske experience as "unnatural-looking hand contortions and fingers that move faster than a hummingbird on speed. Every guitarist in the place turned green with envy".
The world-renowned guitar virtuoso captivates with his musically evocative celebration of this vibrant and diverse instrument.
Mathiske has travelled the world and those travels have influenced his music significantly, as he is inspired by global styles and flavours, rhythms and sounds.
More recently, he's brought them to life and completed the series World On A String specifically for ABC Radio.
He takes you around the world with an E Chord in one song.
"I've had comments from people listening that they really thought they were going across the desert on a camel or driving through the Mallee," Mathiske said.
"If you can take people away from their seat, for even a moment, that's good.
"When people get emotionally involved with the music that's great."
He has overcome many obstacles from left-sided paralyses after being shot in the head to breaking a finger a few days prior to a major tour to go on and be acclaimed as "the authentic guitar virtuoso".
You will be taken on a journey with infectious rhythms and fiery fretwork to delicate melodies.
Mathiske performs favourites from his extensive back catalogue up until the present day.
