After winning the tender from Muswellbrook Shire Council in 2018, Bridge and Civil Pty Ltd was tasked to construct three noise abatement walls along the rail corridor - one at Simpson Park and two behind the Campbell's Corner precinct.
And, last week, the first delivery of supports and pylons arrived near the railway line behind Bridge Street.
The 2.4 metre high walls are expected to reduce the noise of trains - between seven and 13 decibels - and assist in minimising the impact of noise on the community.
Council was granted $1.95m from the NSW Government's Restart NSW Resources for Regions program to undertake detailed investigation, design and construction of the barriers.
With millions of tonnes of coal passing through Muswellbrook on the railway lines each year, it is anticipated that the project will not only help to alleviate the noise from the trains, but also open Simpson Park to outdoor dining and allow cultural and community events to take place without interruption.
The works are scheduled to be completed by mid-October.
Community consultation formed a large part of the process.
Council will then undertake further noise monitoring once construction is completed.
