THE Muswellbrook and District Junior Rugby League Football Club (MDJRLFC) is kicking goals on and off the field in 2019.
But, the icing on the cake could be five premierships if the young Rams and Ramettes achieve their dreams in their respective grand finals on the weekend.
First up, Muswellbrook's league tag squads - the under-14s and under-16s - will tackle the Singleton Greyhounds in both age groups on Friday evening, August 23, at Olympic Park.
The Rams' under-13 boys then head to Scone Park, the following day, for the CRL Central Hunter Division 2 finale with Stockton.
The side finished second on the ladder, on percentages, before defeating the same rivals (28-26) and Dungog (14-12) in the play-offs to secure a berth in the decider.
At St John Park, Charlestown, Muswellbrook's high-flying women's tackle teams will take on Raymond Terrace (under-14s) and West Newcastle (under-16s).
Both outfits secured their minor premierships following impressive performances in the Newcastle-based competition.
"It's been a real good year," MDJRLFC president Johnny Marco said.
"As a club, we've enjoyed record participation numbers for the second consecutive season.
"That's 25 teams in total - and just short of 360 players.
"I guess, compared to other country areas, Muswellbrook is bucking the trend."
Marco was thrilled the club's achievements were replicated on the playing paddock, too.
"It's our most successful year for a long time," he said.
"Every international side, bar one, made the play-offs.
"The under-12s just fell short of the grand final, while the under-15s and under-16s were knocked out on the first weekend.
"So, it would be a massive coup for Muswellbrook to come away with five titles.
"And, a great reward for all the hard work.
"While the under-16 women's tackle team faces a tough assignment on Saturday, the under-14s are chasing a perfect season.
"Even though it's still a development competition, it's a terrific pathway for the girls.
"Both sides will also showcase the club, and what we're capable of, in an unfamiliar area."
Marco has high hopes for the under-13s, too.
"We're really proud of how they've gone so far," he said.
"They're playing up a grade, so it's a wonderful effort to make it this far.
"There are a lot of talented kids coming through that squad.
"It's been four years since we've had a Division 2 team.
"However, they'll have to be at their best to win."
Mini and mod matches will also be played at Scone Park on Saturday.
