Local audiences are set to be enchanted these October school holidays by one of the most beloved family musicals of all time.
The magical tale of Peter Pan will be brought to life on the majestic Civic Theatre stage by international award-winning youth theatre company, Hunter Drama.
Under the expert guidance of acclaimed director James Tolhurst (A Mystery Musical and Chicago), 50 of the Hunter's brightest young musical theatre performers will present a lavish, large-scale production of this high-flying, Tony Award-winning musical which has been delighting crowds around the world for more than 60 years.
Muswellbrook's Bill Parry will portray Mr Darling and Lucie Merrick, from Singleton, is slated to play a Brave Girl named Willow.
Production of the outstanding set and show-stopping costumes is in full swing and the performers playing Peter and the three Darling children are undertaking acro-training in preparation for the scenes where they will be flying across the Civic Theatre stage.
Producer Daniel Stoddart (Shrek JR and Disney's The Little Mermaid JR), who founded Hunter Drama in 2007, said his team was delighted to be providing this performance opportunity to the very eager students who made it through the highly-competitive audition process.
"To perform on the Civic Theatre stage is an honour for any thespian and we are proud to be giving these children - some as young as nine - that opportunity," he explained.
"At Hunter Drama, we pride ourselves on delivering quality productions.
"We engage outstanding crews to guide our cast through exhaustive rehearsal processes to ensure the shows are as professional as possible.
"The cast of Peter Pan is benefiting from three full months of training with their professional director, musical director and choreographer who are pouring their hearts into this show-stopping production."
Peter Pan JR will be at the Civic Theatre for six magical performances across October 10, 11 and 12, with adults at children's prices, because no one ever truly has to grow up.
