AS the temperature, much like the power bills, rises to expected but somehow still shocking levels for another year, many local families will look to the pool to take the edge off of both.

And for those looking to have more than just a spash around, the Muswellbrook Swimming Clubs looms as an enticing proposition.

There are currently just under 30 members already signed up for the new season, and kids are invited along for two free trial nights to help make their decision about whether to join permanently or not.

Launching on Monday, October 14 at 6 pm, the club is still open for new registrations and committee member Kristal Foot said it's an excellent group to be involved in throughout the summer.

"Swimming club is a full family event, kids from as young as four or five - as long as they're competent swimmers - can join, and we go right through to parents," she said.

"We have a range of all different swimming abilities, from our kids just beginning with their strokes who are swimming 25 metres to full laps, to kids that are now our state and national representatives and compete at carnivals all year round."

While some elite locals such Zac and Zahli Woolnough, Mia Dial, Joel Hartin, Maddi Potter and Porsha Jimmieson compete almost constantly, the regular season only goes until the last weekend of March, making it a perfect program to take part in during the warmer months.

Anybody interested in the club is encouraged to contact them via their Facebook page or invited to attend their club nights.
