THERE are some significant changes taking place at Merton Living in Denman.
Firstly, the retirement facility recently purchased 47 Ogilvie Street - the block adjoining the administration office - and, secondly, it will soon offer respite care to its clients.
General manager Shani Mitchell admitted it was "exciting times" ahead.
"The property was previously owned by the local mechanic," she said.
"Unfortunately, Denman has lost a fantastic auto mechanic service.
"But, for us, it's a great gain for Merton Living and our residents.
"Our maintenance team will finally have a dedicated area to work from with the three-bay shed and office on the property.
"It'll also be used by our Merton Village residents for caravan storage when they are not out on the road exploring the country."
Ms Mitchell said she was excited to announce Merton Court would provide respite care to the elder community from November 4.
"We receive numerous requests for respite every year, so it was difficult for us to turn people away, particularly when we have empty beds available," she explained.
"That ends now.
"Merton Court can now offer both low and high level respite care for up to three weeks at a time.
"Respite care supports you and your carer by giving you both a break for a short period of time.
"It is also an opportunity to see if you are ready for permanent residential care.
"Residential respite is best suited if you need ongoing, continuous carer support for most tasks.
"During your respite stay at Merton Court, you'll be entitled to the same care and support services as permanent residents.
"For instance, you'll be given a room and hotel-type services such as meals, laundry and social activities, as well as services to meet your personal and care needs."
To access residential respite, care recipients must be assessed as eligible by an ACAT.
