The talented group - Tyler Wilton, Jack Andrews, Charli Kelman, Levi Shaw, Caidan Waugh, Tyler Mullard, Ryan Horton and Shontayne Huggins - will contest the two-day event at the Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre on Wednesday and Thursday, November 6 and 7.
The youngsters progressed through school, zone and regional trials to qualify for the state carnival in a variety of disciplines, including relays, shot put, discus and long jump.
Twelve-year-old Huggins is taking aim at the senior boys' discus and shot put titles, while Kelman, 10, lines up in the junior girls' discus.
Mullard and Horton will tackle the 11 years' boys' long jump and shot put respectively.
Andrews, Shaw, Waugh and Wilton are joining forces for the junior boys' relay.
Muswellbrook Public School's sports coordinator Renee Coward said everyone was proud of the students.
"This is the most representatives we've had at state in the past decade," she explained.
"All of them have a terrific opportunity to progress, too.
"And, I think they're getting a little bit excited [about the championships].
"Credit must also go to Ian Ingle, who's worked hard with the relay teams.
"At zone, which took place at Singleton, all four qualified for the regionals.
"Now, the junior boys' 4 x 100m is off to the NSW PSSA Athletics Championships."
Ms Coward admitted all eight athletes had a "good grounding" in the sport.
"A few of them are involved in Little Athletics away from school, which helps," she said.
"Then you have someone like Charli [Kelman], whose mum was a coach.
"Shontayne's family is enmeshed [in athletics] as well.
"It's a great example of outside sporting groups and schools combining to foster their talents.
"We wish them the best of luck."
