Hundreds of students took part in the fun, and were more than happy to look like a human canvas by the end of it.

Parents and teachers participated too, with principal Aaron Moon getting in the thick of the action by spraying the colours near the finish line.

Muswellbrook Fire and Rescue NSW was on hand to help as well, using their hoses to provide some much-needed cooling down for the kids.

President of St James' Parents and Friends group, Sonia Boyle, and treasurer Therese Bristow were a key part in proceedings and the latter had her say on how the day went.

"This is the third year we've had the colour run at school, the kids really enjoy it, they get excited about getting sprayed and the fire truck," she said.

"It's just a really good, fun community activity and a nice way to finish the year, they've worked hard all year so it's kind of like a nice reward at the end."

The funds raised from the day will go towards obtaining new playground equipment for the school's students.
