Jirsch Sutherland, appointed as a voluntary administrator for the firm in September, confirmed last week the entire MRSSG workforce would be terminated on Friday, November 29.
The independent insolvency specialists were assigned to manage and investigate the affairs of the following companies Holdings (MRS) Pty Ltd, Bachmann Plant Hire Pty Ltd, MRS Property No1 Pty Ltd, Management Resource Solutions Pty Ltd and MRS Services Group Pty Ltd, which is located at Thomas Mitchell Drive, Muswellbrook.
Mr Fitzgibbon admitted he was shocked by the announcement.
"This is a tough time for the 220 workers who will probably lose their jobs at MRS in Muswellbrook, coming as it does before Christmas," he said.
"The administration of MRSSG is a commercial and legal matter.
"However, it is a reminder of why we need strong workplace laws to make sure workers' wages, conditions and entitlements cannot be placed in jeopardy.
"There are some safeguards available through the commonwealth's Fair Entitlements Guarantee (FEG) scheme but it is not a quick solution.
"Workers and their families affected by the MRS administration should contact my office if they need assistance with information relating to Centrelink and financial planning solutions."
It is believed a small group of MRSSG employees that Jirsch Sutherland engages on a casual basis beyond November 29 will assist with any residual wind down.
