And, the community is invited to attend on December 5 to discover the track and enjoy an afternoon tea.
The Platypus Track starts from the Olympic Park carpark on Wilkinson Avenue and runs for 190m behind the Muswellbrook Aquatic Centre.
It forms part of a pathway recently completed from the nature trail off Haydon Street to Bell Street, a distance of 1.9km.
Signs at either end of the track describe the history of the name Muscle Creek and a local Aboriginal Elder's perspective.
"Aunty Bev (Van Vliet), one of our past Aboriginal Elders, always said: 'If you want to know about river health, ask the frogs and fishes," Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council CEO Noel Downs said.
With support of external funding and Muscle Creek Landcare volunteers, Muswellbrook Shire Council has worked since 2016 to removed exotic weed species from Muscle Creek and replant with a diversity of natives.
Council also completed three nature trails to improve opportunities for community members to enjoy the creek.
The organisation's sustainability officer, Mick Brady, said although a lot of work had been completed, there was still a lot to do.
"Council will continue to seek funding to complete restoration projects and works to improve access to this waterway," he added.
"We'd like to thank our local community volunteers and the Recreational Fishing Trust for their efforts on this project."
Interested residents are invited to meet at the Bell Street Olympic Park entry at 4.30pm.
RSVP by December 2 to the opening by phoning 6549 3700.
