A 3.8 magnitude quake struck at 3.27pm and was at a depth of just two kilometres, with Geoscience Australia (GSA) identifying its origin as a spot between Edderton and Muswellbrook.
GSA's website shows the central point to be less than a kilometre north-east of Carramere Road in the Muswellbrook industrial area, although those as far away as Aberdeen, Denman and Singleton felt it, too.
Social media users reported that power temporarily went out, and damage to property had taken place in the area.
However, that wasn't the only one for the afternoon.
A second, stronger earthquake occurred at 4.29pm.
On this occasion, it was a 4.4 magnitude quake and felt as far away as Maitland.
The most recent seismic event's origin was closer to Denman.
Another tremor was registered at 6.10pm as well.
