Aaron Batchelor, who recently contested the Sydney 8-Ball Masters, and good mate Gary Morley will stage a pool competition at the Railway Hotel in Muswellbrook on Saturday, January 18, to secure much-needed funds for the highly-regarded organisation.
With a $10 buy-in, and a number of activities in the pipeline, all proceeds from the event are set to boost the NSW RFS coffers in the Upper Hunter.
"My aim is to get 64 participants at least, however the more the merrier," Batchelor said.
"There are so many pool players in the region, I'd be surprised if we don't get a big turn-out.
"We're not doing it for us, it's all about the [NSW RFS] volunteers.
"They totally deserve it."
Novelty darts games, a donation bucket, sausage sizzle and a couple of extra surprises are promised to round out the day's entertainment.
Railway Hotel owner Greg Smith is also kicking the tin, with 10 per cent of the bar takings aiding the worthwhile cause.
Batchelor and Morley will raffle off a pool cue each, as well as a unique national darts jacket, too.
"We just want the community to turn up, dig deep and help our local heroes - it doesn't matter how big or small your donation is," the former said.
"It's tough for them at the moment, but they're doing a great job.
"Whatever we raise, it all goes to the volunteers.
"We'd love to see some NSW RFS guys in attendance, so we can hear their stories.
"Aaron and I would like to express our gratitude to Greg [Smith], and the Railway Hotel, for letting it go ahead.
"Apparently he'll make a further contribution to the NSW RFS on Australia Day, which is greatly appreciated.
"This can be a really successful event [on Saturday] if we all support each other," Batchelor added.
The pair will be at the Railway Hotel from noon to take names for the pool competition, which is scheduled to start about 2pm.
The winner receives a Sunday roast for four at Monkey Business, with the runner-up earning a carton of beer.
Third place will claim 10 schooners and fourth a $25 gift card.
"Our thanks to everyone who's provided the prizes," Batchelor said.
