Muswellbrook celebrating NSW Seniors Festival in style, with a variety of events planned

Something for everyone

MUSWELLBROOK is planning to celebrate the NSW Seniors Festival in style, with a variety of events over the next fortnight.

The 2020 program, from Wednesday, February 12, to Sunday, February 23, focuses on everything from fitness to wellness, gardening to chess, socials to the arts.

One of the key fixtures will be David Darcy's talk at the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre on Saturday, February 22.

From 10.30am, the 2019 Archibald Prize People's Choice winner and Murrurundi artist is chatting about his artistic "Practice and Process", along with his experiences of being a two-time Archibald finalist.

Then, on Thursday, February 20, Upper Hunter Community Services and Muswellbrook Neighbourhood Service are hosting a Seniors Social at the Denman Memorial Hall.

"It's a social gathering for the over 55s, with free old-time music and finger food available," Muswellbrook Neighbourhood Service's Vanessa Harshman said.

"Or, those attending can bring along a light supper.

"It should be a great time, from 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

"And, best of all, it's free."

Earlier that day, between 11am and 1pm, the Wanaruah Land Council Elders Group will host cultural activities at the Wanaruah Local Aboriginal Land Council in Maitland Street.

"We'll have doll making and rock art," coordinator Roz Thomson said.
