The Muswellbrook GM became a Big Issue vendor, selling the street magazine in Newcastle as part of The Big Issue's annual Corporate Leader Selling event.
Mr Lancey was among executives across Australia, who donned the signature Big Issue fluoro vests with sellers to celebrate International Vendor Week from Monday, February 3, to Sunday, February 9.
Corporate Leader Selling is part of International Vendor Week, an annual celebration of 9000 street paper vendors in 35 countries around the world.
"Having CEOs come together [last] week to help sell the magazine was an incredible display of support for those experiencing homelessness, marginalisation and disadvantage," CEO of The Big Issue Steven Persson said.
"By standing with the vendors, they are sending the message to the community that vendors are legitimate businesspeople who are working hard to change their lives.
"I hope it encourages many out there to meet their local vendor and purchase a copy of the magazine."
The Big Issue has been selling in Newcastle since December 2018, thanks to BHP seed funding and a three-year local partnership with Mt Arthur Coal.
"We're proud to partner with The Big Issue to expand its presence in Newcastle and the Hunter region," Mr Lancey said.
"Every day this fantastic organisation provides opportunities for homeless and disadvantaged people to earn a meaningful income.
"I am humbled by today's experience and hope it encourages many out there to meet and connect with their Big Issue vendor and to support their local community."
Mr Lancey teamed up with Andrew to sell copies in Newcastle.
And, he was struck by the challenges the vendors faced.
"It's a tough gig, but the vendors are out there working and staying connected with their communities,'' he said.
"It was a great opportunity to swap stories and hear about the impact The Big Issue has on helping people get back on their feet while proudly working."
Executives showing their support also included Elsabe Muller (Asset President BHP Mitsui Coal/NSW Energy Coal), as well as other prominent business, banking, legal, property and mining figures.
In Australia, more than 800 vendors sell The Big Issue each year.
Vendors purchase copies of the magazine for $4.50 and sell them for $9, earning a meaningful income.
Alongside Corporate Leader Selling, The Big Issue is celebrating 13 million copies sold of the magazine since starting in 1996.
This incredible figure means that more than $30 million has been put into vendors' pockets over the past 24 years.
