THE Muswellbrook Cats opened their account in the AFL Hunter Central Coast Black Diamond Plate with a comprehensive victory over Wallsend-West Newcastle at the weekend.

Following losses to Lake Macquarie, 12.18 (90) to 3.3 (21), and The Entrance Bateau Bay, 16.7 (103) to 9.3. (57), in the first two rounds of the shortened season, the outfit was in desperate need of competition points.
And, they thumped their rivals 13.14 (92) to 2.5 (17) to chalk up their maiden win in 2020.
The Cats led from the start, enjoying a 4.4 (28) to 1.2 (8) advantage at the end of term one.
Muswellbrook extended its margin to 6.11 (47) to 1.2 (8) at the long break, while keeping Wallsend-West Newcastle scoreless.
The Cats then went on with the job, with Jayden Galvin booting six majors.
Corey Harris kicked three goals, with one each to Cameron Benkovic, Johnathan Williams, Toby McInnes and Blake Medway.
In a strong team performance, Dominic Tegart, Galvin, Harris, Nathan Connor, James Adams and Dominic White were deemed Muswellbrook's best.
The Cats now face Terrigal Avoca at Weeraman Field on Saturday, August 8, from 1pm.
