Local residents have reported feeling tremors around Muswellbrook on Sunday night, and Geoscience Australia has confirmed an earthquake was registered in that area.
At about 8.40pm, a quake measuring 3.6 magnitude was recorded just outside of the Mount Arthur Coal Mine property.
Several monitoring stations across the state picked up the tremors, which were only recorded at the depth of one kilometre.
More than 150 people reportedly contacted Geoscience Australia to register having felt the quake.
