Muswellbrook Race Club celebrated the return of racing crowds in NSW with a seven race program coinciding with the 2021 Melbourne Cup on Tuesday, November 2.

Gates opened at 11:30am for the event at Skellatar Park, with a local seven race program starting at 1.15pm and finishing with the final race at 5:52pm.
Justfour (Rachel Murray for Mary Moses) took out the first race of the day after a protest was upheld following an initial declaration of a dead heat with Montari (Aaron Bullock for Paul Messara Racing).
The second race of the day saw Saint Ay (Madeline Owen for Dean Mirfin) take out the Muswellbrook Shire Council Mayor's Cup B58 Handicap ahead of Oakfield Hiawatha and Miss Twenty Twenty.
With just his first start, Keikoku (Brandon Griffiths for Nathan Doyle) won the third race of the day in the Muswellbrook Golf Club three year old Maiden Plate.
The race program paused as the crowd turned its attention to the big screen to watch as Verry Elleegant won the Melbourne Cup main event in Flemington, earning jockey James McDonald and trainer Chris Waller their first Melbourne Cup victory.
Incentivise and Spanish Mission placed second and third respectively in the Melbourne Cup.
The Skellatar Park program concluded with its seventh race of the day, the Muswellbrook Coal Bowman Sprint over 900 metres, which was won by Remlap's Jewel (Billy Cray for Scott Singleton).
The Muswellbrook Race Club's Melbourne Cup event was one of its first to allow attendees since the easing of COVID restrictions in NSW, following the club's Ladies Day which was held on Sunday, October 31.
