The construction of the new bridge forms part of the Council's upgrades to sporting facilities in the precinct as part of the Olympic Park Masterplan.
According to a 'Review of Environmental Factors' report into the Olympic Park Development, the "precinct upgrade will allow for larger regional events to be hosted in Muswellbrook, including hosting National Rugby League (NRL) games".
According to the Olympic Park Masterplan, published in August 2018, the "new bridge is proposed as one way, to limit impact on existing residential dwellings on Wilder Street" and the "exit from Wilder Street onto the New England Highway is proposed as left out only".
Muswellbrook Shire Council said the project has a total budget of $2.7M which includes the construction of the bridge and upgrades to the associated road approaches which link Wilder St to Wilkinson Ave.
The Council said it is aiming to complete the bridge around March 2022, however the construction timeframe is subject to weather delays, particularly as a result of recent rainfall.
The construction of approach roads and restoration at the site will most likely extend through to June 2022, the Council said.
